Notes from the faculty-trainee lunch at Yale with Daniel Greif on Oct 28, 2026 Topic: Time management and avoiding burnout

  • Academia/research/work is a marathon, it never ends so its always good to keep in touch with hobbies and develop new interests all the time in life
  • Work as much as it excites you but at the same time listen to yourself on when to take a step back. A weekend comepletely off work is not going slow you down.
  • Find time to completely shut down your screen and be present with your surrounding. Even a couple of hours off in a busy week can give you strength to keep going.
  • Be intentional with yourself and your surrounding. Foster good relationships and friendships. Its important to listen to your surrounding and not just work.
  • Subjective: Family is important. When you have an obligation to family that crosses with work, prioritising based on importance helps in deciding which one to tend to
  • Always communicate to your surrounding.
  • Its good to schedule outings (or calls, whaever works) with friends in advance so you dont cancel on the day of.

I love these informal lunches with faculty. Its such a great way of meeting people and hearing from faculty on topics that arent science related. Today’s lunch: Halal cart (so soo good)
